Originally released in an alpha state via Steam's Early Access program in 2014 after a successful crowdfunding campaign, the full game was released in August 1st, 2017 for PC and consoles, and September 17th, 2020 for Nintendo Switch. The Long Dark is a first-person survival video game developed by Canadian developer Hinterland Studio.
